West Bengal and Karnataka Scraps NEET UG Exam: After Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and West Bengal Assembly has passed a resolution to scrap the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) in the state, and substitute it with a new entrance exam for all the eligible and interested candidates who are looking forward to their career in medical studies. The resolution criticizes the National Testing Agency (NTA) for allegedly not being able to conduct a free and fair exam and urges the state government to hold joint entrance exams across the state in the interest of the general public.
Education Minister Bratya Basu claimed that the NEET UG 2024 Question Papers were leaked for INR 30 to 40 lakhs, It is not fair to the rest 2 lakh students who studied hard for the respective examination and got cheated. He also stated that the release of the NEET UG results was postponed to June 4, 2024, coinciding with the Lok Sabha elections, there was something, and action was taken to cover up something. He added, "There were protests from our side when the exams were handed over to the Center in the brazen step of dismantling the federal structure."

Following Tamil Nadu, the West Bengal and Karnataka have joined the list of states to scrap the NEET UG Exam for admission to medical courses.
Karnataka Passes Resolution Scrapping NEET
On Monday, the Karnataka state cabinet approved a resolution against the NEET UG Exam, which will be presented in the ongoing assembly session. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar urged the Centre to scrap NEET and allow states to conduct their entrance exams. He has consistently opposed the NEET exam by drawing attention to its massive irregularities and the ways in which it was harming rural and disadvantaged students' hopes of pursuing a career in medicine.
Tamil Nadu Passes Resolution Scrapping NEET
The Tamil Nadu state government has also passed a resolution demanding the Centre scrap NEET and let states conduct their entrance exams for medical courses. Tamil Nadu has always opposed NEET UG Eam from day one, preferring to conduct its tests for MBBS admissions.
Earlier, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP K. Kanimozhi confirmed the demand that Tamil Nadu be "exempt" from NEET, which is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for medical admissions nationwide. She also added "We favor the abolition of NEET. A resolution that our Assembly passed is currently waiting for the President to sign," Kanimozhi stated. The DMK MP went on to say that while they wait for the President's assent, students' lives are impacted."
