Kerala School Holiday (July 16 Update): Will School Remain Closed Aimed Heavy Rain Fall Red Alerts?

Kerala School Holiday: The India Meteorological Department has forecasted the possibility of heavy rain falls and red alerts for Jul 16, 2024. Therefore, there are high chances of schools declaring a holiday due to the potentially severe weather conditions. The residents from three districts; Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod of the region have been urged to prepare for over 20 cm of rainfall within 24 hours. Apart from the red alert on these areas, the weather forecast had also predicted an orange alert for Jul 15 in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Palakkad districts.

Due to this forecast, the district authorities declared a holiday for the educational institutions of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kasaragod and Kannur on Jul 15, 2024 due to the incessant rains that led to an orange alert, meaning heavy rain from 11 cm to 20 cm. Not only the educational institutions, the district authorities of Kasaragod have also suspended all tourism activities due to the weather conditions.

Note that the authorities are declaring the Kerala School Holiday due to the widespread damage that has been reported to various districts given the red alert for strong winds and monsoon showers that have led to the uprooting of trees, water logging and minor landslides. In addition, the Kerala Disaster Management authority has also warned the residents of the water logging situation and poor visibility of vehicles that has led to traffic congestion.
