Himachal Pradesh 12th Board Exam 2025 Cancelled Due to Possibility of Paper Leak

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has called off the Class 12 English examination for March 2025 in all examination centres of the state after an investigation confirmed reports of a possible paper leak. The introduction of this rule is consequent upon certain reports that have emerged about a possible paper leak.

HPBOSE 2025 Exam Cancellation Important Highlights

• Exam Postponed: HPBOSE had postponed the Class 12 English exam (March 2025 session) after a suspected paper leak.
• Reason for Cancellation: A leak was identified at Government Senior Secondary School Chowari, which falls under the Chamba district, where the Class 12 paper of English was accidentally opened on March 7, instead of the Class 10 paper.
• Investigation & Verification: The video evidence from the Exam Mitra App conclusively confirmed the breach, prompting HPBOSE to act swiftly.
• Official Action: Exercising its authority under Section 2.1.2 of the HPBOSE Examination Regulations, 1993, the Board decided to postpone the examination in all centers throughout the state.
• Re-Exam Date: HPBOSE will soon release the new date for the re-exam, and students are requested to look for the updates in official sources.

Reason for Cancellation

The breach was detected at Government Senior Secondary School, Chowari, in District Chamba, where by mistake, teachers opened the Class 12 English question paper instead of the Class 10 paper. The Class 10 English exam was to be held on March 7, and the Class 12 English exam was on March 8.

The authorities were tipped off on March 7 by an anonymous complaint that the Class 12 English question paper had been accessed before its official date and time. The HPBOSE immediately investigated the matter and confirmed the complaint with the help of video evidence recorded on the Exam Mitra App, which is a monitoring system to enhance the security of any examination.

Official Statement from HPBOSE

Following the confirmation of the breach, HPBOSE Secretary Vishal Sharma said that the board took the issue very seriously and acted swiftly. 

Under the power given by Section 2.1.2 of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education Examination Regulations, 1993 (as amended in July 2017), the chairman of HPBOSE ordered the cancellation of the Class 12 English examination across the state. 

HPBOSE has promised the students and the parents that the re-examination dates will be notified shortly, and all the developments will be made known through the right channels.

Concerns Over Examination Security

This incident raised questions about the adequacy of current security protocols in Board exams. In reaction, the authorities are being called upon to revise the protocols in order to ensure that future repetitions of such incidents shall not occur.
