The reports suggest that this step will help align the student’s goals set in the National Education Policy. It is expected that this step will overcome the shortcomings of the NEP, under which each semester has seven papers, including four core discipline-specific papers with four credits each and four additional papers called the General Elective, Value Added course, Skill Enhancement Course and Ability Enhancement course with two credits each in every semester.

According to the minutes of the Committee’s meetings, the candidates could easily score 22 credits out of the required 44 to get promoted to the second year in their first semester. They were not as active as they should be in the second semester. Therefore, DU Increases Credit Requirement for Promotion in Second Year to 28 so that the student can exhibit good performance in enough discipline-specific (DSC) papers for the course they have opted for. It is further stated that there is no compulsion to take the core academic subjects to attain the minimum credits for passing the semester.
