The statistics clearly show that the students who did their engineering degree, perhaps after qualifying for JEE Mains, have fared well in the CAT exam. They seem to be performing much better than candidates with other backgrounds, including those with a background in commerce.
This phenomenon in the CAT exam can be explained as the engineering students are more inclined to prepare for stricter competition than students from other academic backgrounds. As the CAT is a high-difficulty exam, engineering students are able to use their experience in preparing for challenging exams, be they engineering entrance exams or course exams. These students seem to, in general, have better preparation strategies, test-taking skills, and time management, which are all crucial elements in preparing for any exam like the CAT.
