The Telangana State Government has declared to schools and colleges on September 29, 2025, due to a yellow alert issued across the state.

According to the IMD, the rain is not over yet:

• September 27–28: Heavy rainfall expected across Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal, and Sangareddy.
• September 29 onwards: Rainfall expected to ease gradually.
• Temperatures will remain cool, ranging between 26°C and 28°C, but humidity levels are expected to stay high.

At least three incoming IndiGo flights from Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata were diverted to Vijayawada after failing to land at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) due to poor visibility and rain today. Airport authorities have advised all passengers to check flight status before traveling and to leave early due to heavy road congestion around the airport.

Given the heavy rain today and the forecast of more showers, the Cyberabad Traffic Police has urged IT companies and major corporates to shift to a Work From Home (WFH) setup to reduce traffic congestion and ensure public safety. This advisory comes after overnight rain left several arterial roads submerged, creating bottlenecks and delaying emergency services.

• Immediate deployment of GHMC, HYDRAA, NDRF, and SDRF emergency teams
• Evacuation plans to be kept ready
• Power department instructed to fix damaged/hanging wires and ensure uninterrupted supply
• Postponement of public events and project inaugurations

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy chaired a high-level emergency meeting with top officials, directing all departments to remain on high alert.

In response to the weather warning, police advised Hyderabad's IT sector to institute work-from-home policies to reduce traffic and help manage potential waterlogging on city roads.

Heavy rains on September 26 and 27 were triggered by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which was forecast to intensify and move toward the South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh coasts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for all of Telangana for September 29, with continuous rain and thunderstorms predicted through at least October 2, 2025.

The highest rainfall in Telangana varies depending on the time period, with Mulugu district recording the state's historical highest rainfall of 649.8 mm in a single day in July 2023. For shorter periods, like in late August 2025, the Kamareddy district saw exceptionally high rainfall, with some areas receiving over 400 mm in a short duration.

However, Adilabad district has historically been cited as receiving the highest rainfall, while also being noted as an area that receives the highest rainfall within the state annually due to its northern location.

Flights at Hyderabad's airport were diverted due to the weather. 

Key information technology hubs in Hyderabad have been severely waterlogged since Friday, September 26, prompting a "work from home" advisory for IT firms.

Heavy inflows into the Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar dams have caused the Musi River to swell and overflow. This has led to the inundation of low-lying areas, and about 1,500 people have been moved to relief camps.

Due to the severe weather, the state government has declared a school holiday for Monday, September 29, 2025.

The state government has initiated emergency response measures. Some businesses have been advised to issue work-from-home orders, and flights were diverted from the Hyderabad airport on Saturday.

IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in multiple Telangana districts, including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanumakonda.
