Schools may remain closed in areas where red alerts have been issued by IMD. However, students and parents are advised to follow the guidelines by government authorities and respective schools only. Here are some updates on IMD warnings:
- Red alerts are issued for Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Chengalpattu districts, and Puducherry regions .
- People are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls in red alert districts.
- Orange alerts are issued for Chennai, Thanjavur, Ranippettai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Thiruvannamallai, Kallakkurichi, Perambalur, Nagapattinam, Thirivarur, and Ariyalur.
- People can expect very heavy rainfall in areas under orange alerts.
- Yellow alerts are issued for the rest of Tamil Nadu, including Vellore, Dharmapuri, Tiruppattur, Salem, Thiruchirapalli, Puddukottai, etc.
- According to IMD, two low pressures may cause heavy to very heavy rainfall of 7cm to 20cm, and even more than 21 cm rainfall in some parts.
- Officials are advised to keep the relief camps ready.
- All schools, colleges, and educational institutions in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Kallakurichi, and Kancheepuram districts of Tamil Nadu were closed today, October 22, 2025.
- Salem, Perambalur, Namakkal, Pudukkottai, Tiruchirapalli, and Tiruppur districts have announced school holidays.
