Also, the IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has issued a yellow alert in all districts of Tamil Nadu for October 17, 2024, and October 18, 2024. North Tamil Nadu districts like Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Thiruvannamallai may experience thunderstorms and lightning. - Chennai has been among the worst-hit cities due to the cyclone-like situations caused by the depression over the Bay of Bengal crossing North Tamil Nadu.
- The upper air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has caused heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu districts, particularly Chennai.
- The situation has caused severe waterlogging in the cities. There are visuals of streets covered in muddy water due to heavy rainfall.
- The government is working to clear the water stagnation. However, according to IMD, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in the Chennai district.
- While the District Collectors of Chennai have confirmed that the schools will function as usual on time due to clear weather on 17th October 2024, the school holidays in Chennai on October 18, 2024, depending on the weather conditions.
