Recently, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)issued alerts regarding severe cold waves and dense fogs across northern India, which covers Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. According to the latest updates, the morning temperature has dropped to 4 degrees Celsius, which is expected to be the coldest day of the year. Amidst the biting cold weather, the Directorate of Education, Govt of NCT of Delhi, announced school holidays till January 15, 2026. Winter break started on January 1, 2026.
The extension of school holidays is a measure to safeguard younger students against any fatal events that might occur due to low visibility when commuting.
