The Central Government has notified the National Sports Governance (National Sports Bodies) Rules, 2026, under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025. The Rules provide the framework for the inclusion of Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit, composition of the General Body and Executive Committee, election procedures, and disqualification criteria for members of National Sports Bodies and Regional Sports Federations. The Rules also outline provisions for the National Sports Election Panel and specify procedures for registration and periodic updating of affiliate units with the National Sports Board.
The government has debunked a message circulating on social media platforms claiming that the government is offering free laptops under the Students Laptop Scheme 2026. It added that in the message the government is asking recipients to share their personal details. The fact-check unit of the Press Information Bureau has informed that the claim is fake and a part of a scam. The unit added that no such scheme has been announced by the government. PIB also urged citizens to not fall for such schemes and advised to check news only through official government sources.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested its Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile with top attack capability against a moving target in Hyderabad yesterday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has complimented DRDO, Partners and the Industry for the successful test. He said that the test is an important step towards building a self-reliant nation.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav today said that India’s strong network of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), comprising 32 crore people, provides the country with resilience against any global economic crisis. Addressing the ‘Cooperative Chintan Shivir’ organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Minister said that cooperatives promote not only economic growth but also democratic empowerment. Mr. Yadav emphasised that the cooperative sector plays a vital role in social empowerment and inclusive development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India remains fully committed to further strengthening its friendship and partnership with Germany. Addressing a joint press meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, he said, this is Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s first visit to India and to Asia since assuming office, underscoring the importance he places on relations with India.’ The Prime Minister added that the visit is taking place at a special time, giving it added significance for bilateral ties. The Prime Minister said that India and Germany completed 25 years of their strategic partnership last year and are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.
President Donald Trump said the United States will acquire Greenland, warning that failure to do so would allow Russia or China to gain control of the strategic Arctic territory. Trump said he preferred a negotiated agreement, but the outcome was inevitable. Answering whether military action was being considered, Trump said the US focus was on ownership. He also dismissed concerns that such a move could undermine NATO.Â
In Jammu and Kashmir, dense fog engulfed Jammu city and adjoining areas in the early hours today, causing slow movement and difficulties for commuters on roads. An Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that visibility remained significantly low, disrupting normal traffic flow and prompting drivers to exercise caution. Seven flights were delayed at the Jammu Airport yesterday due to heavy fog and low visibility conditions, affecting air traffic during the morning hours. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted that dense fog is likely to persist at a few places across the Jammu division till today.
