The sixth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games has started in Leh city of Ladakh. Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta inaugurated the event. Players from 21 States and Union Territories will compete in Ice Sporting Events-Hockey and Skating. An Akashvani correspondent reports that the Opening Ceremony of the Sixth Khelo India Winter Games 2026 was inaugurated today at NDS Stadium in Leh.

Maharashtra has signed 19 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), worth an unprecedented 14.50 lakh crore rupees, on the very first day of the World Economic Forum, being held at Davos. The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state Industries Minister Dr Uday Samant, reinforcing Mr Fadnavis’ assertion that Maharashtra is the Gateway of India for industry and investment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today highlighted the rise of India’s textile sector. Sharing an article written by Union Minister Giriraj Singh for a national daily in a social media post, Mr Modi talked about the transformation of the textile sector from a traditional, legacy industry into a powerful, job-creating and people-centric engine of growth. He noted that the sector reflects the true spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by strengthening domestic manufacturing.

Mr Modi added that the article highlights that initiatives such as the PM MITRA Parks, the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and newly signed Free Trade Agreements are driving the next wave of growth in the textile sector.

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan today inaugurated the Mahadev Desai Library Extension and released the book Age of Enlightenment: Mahatma Gandhi’s Vision in New Delhi. The Vice President released this book while visiting the Harijan Sevak Sangh at the Gandhi Ashram in the National Capital. Mr Radhakrishnan also visited the Kasturba Museum located within the Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi stayed during their visits to Delhi in the 1930s and 1940s.

US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte about Greenland and said that he would meet several parties in Davos. He reiterated his stance on Greenland, calling it integral for American and world security at large. The US President shared the details of the conversation in a post on Truth Social today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nitin Nabin on being appointed as the national president of the BJP, terming it the largest party in the world. At the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Mr Modi said that Mr Nabin will carry forward the legacy of the BJP. He underlined that the newly appointed BJP national president belongs to the generation that has witnessed major economic, social, and technological transformations in the country.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is witnessing steady progress with the installation of Overhead Electrification masts advancing along the corridor. In a social media post, Mr Vaishnaw said that the development marks an important step towards enabling electric traction for India’s first high-speed rail system and reflects consistent on-ground execution under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to double bilateral trade to 200 billion dollars by 2032. The decision was taken during the delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New Delhi yesterday. During the meeting, several agreements were also signed in the fields of Defence, Space, Energy and Food Safety between India and the UAE.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today conducted search operations at 21 locations across Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) 2002. The search operation was conducted in connection with the alleged misappropriation of gold and other temple assets related to the Sabarimala Temple.
