JEE Main 2024 Session 1 Result: NTA Denies Claims of Error in Normalization
NTA has rejected by the allegations by some candidates and coaching institutes regarding errors in the normalization of JEE Main 2024 Session 1 Result
JEE Main 2024 Session 1 Result: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has denied the allegations by some candidates and coaching institutes that there has been errors in percentile calculation in the JEE Main Session 1 Result 2024 and that there has been uneven distribution of candidates within shifts. Responding to the allegations, the agency published the data on allotted number of candidates JEE Main 2024 Session 1 for every shift. Since the declaration of the JEE Main 2024 Session 1 Result for Paper 1, several candidates had complained about the considerable difference in the JEE Main marks vs percentile for some shifts.
Candidates that recieved their JEE Main Result 2024 for session 1 on Feb 13 said that shifts of the exam that were conducted on Jan 27 and 29 had more number of candidates and that left these candidates with a disadvantage. However, responding to the allegation, NTA stated that it had ensured that each shift had an equal distribution in terms of candidate count, gender, and category. Further, the agency released the statistics as evidence supporting its claim.

A popular creator on Youtube released a video claiming that a disproportionately large number of candidates, about 2.9 lakh (23.8% of the candidates), were allotted January 27 shift 1. However, as per the data on shift wise number of students released by the NTA it it is seen that only 1.22 lakh (10%) were allotted that shift and the following shift had only 10.3% of the total registered candidates. Hence, NTA has debunked this claim by the youtuber.
However, after the NTA has released the shift wise statistics, some social media users have pointed out reasons to be skeptical about the data published by the NTA. They say that the list does not mention any third gender candidates but and still has a total of 1221624 total registered candidates, which brings to question where the 9 third gender candidates fit in the data. Moreover, the NTA's data does not provide the details of the absentees.
The NTA may release further clarification about the issues concerning the normalization of the JEE Main 2024 Session 1 Results in the coming days. Candidates, however, are advised not to fall prey for the false rumors and wait for the official announcements.
