GATE 2026 Exam Guidelines: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has scheduled to conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 Examination on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. GATE 2026 Exam Guidelines
Candidates can access the GATE Exam Guidelines 2026 available below.
- Carry the Admit Card: Candidates must carry a printed copy of their GATE 2026 Admit Card. It is a mandatory document for entry into the examination hall. Candidates must ensure that the photograph and other details on the admit card are clear and legible.
- Bring the Photo ID Proof: Along with the admit card, candidates must carry a valid original photo identification proof, such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, passport, or driving license. The name on the ID proof must match the name on the GATE admit card 2026.
- Reach Before the Reporting Time: Reach the examination centre 90 minutes before the reporting time mentioned on the admit card. This will allow ample time for security checks, biometric verification, and other pre-exam formalities. Late arrival may lead to denial of entry. Also candidates will not be allowed to log in 30 minutes before the exam starts.
- Carry Permitted Items Only: Only certain items are permitted inside the examination hall. These typically include a pen, pencil, and a simple calculator (if allowed for the specific paper).
- Avoid Carrying Prohibited Items: Mobile phones, electronic devices, watches, books, notes, calculators (other than the permitted type), and any other unauthorized materials are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. Possession of prohibited items may lead to disqualification.
- Strictly Follow the Dress Code: Follow the prescribed dress code guidelines. Avoid wearing clothing with metal buttons, zippers, or other metallic embellishments.
- Biometric Verification: Biometric verification, including fingerprint and photograph capture, will be conducted at the examination centre.
- Follow the Invigilators Instructions: Listen carefully to the instructions given by the invigilators and read the instructions displayed on the computer screen before starting the exam. Clarify any doubts with the invigilators before the exam begins.
- Rough Work: Rough work can be done on the scribble pad provided at the examination centre. Do not write anything on the admit card or any other document.
- No Breaks Will Be Allowed : There will be no breaks during the GATE exam.
- Disciplinary Actions: Any form of malpractice, cheating, or disruptive behaviour will be dealt with strictly and may lead to disqualification from the exam and future GATE exams.
