GATE 2024 Exam Pattern: The GATE Exam 2024 will commence on Feb 3. With the postgraduate engineering entrance exam approaching, the candidates who had registered for the exam are bus with the preparation for the exam. Candidates can check the GATE 2024 Exam Pattern given below:
- The examination will be conducted as an online computer-based examination
- The exam duration will be 3 hours.
- The GATE 2024 will be divided into 2 sections - General Aptitude (GA) and the Candidate Selected Subject (One of the 30 available subjects)
- As for the types of questions that will appear, there will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions.
- There will be a total of 65 Questions, including 10 questions from General Aptitude, and the total marks in the paper will be 100
- The distribution of questions in all Papers except AR, CY, DA, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, XH and XL will be as follows:
- Engineering Mathematics - 13 Marks
- Subject Questions - 72 Marks
- General Aptitude - 15 Marks
- The distribution of questions in the AR, CY, DA, EY, GG, MA, PH, ST, XH and XL papers will be as follows:
- Questions from Subject Concerned - 85 Marks
- General Aptitude - 15 Marks
Further, the GATE Marking Scheme 2024 will be as follows:
- The questions will carry 1 or 2 marks
- Two types of MCQs:
- MCQs - 1 mark for each correct answer and 1/3 mark for every wrong answer will be deducted.
- MCQs - 2 marks for each correct answer and 2/3 marks for every incorrect response will be deducted.
- There is NO negative marking for MSQ and NAT questions.
To answer, is there a negative marking in GATE 2024? Marks will be deducted for incorrect responses to the MCQ questions. However, negative markings will not apply to MSQ and NAT-type questions.
GATE 2024: List of Documents Required on Exam Day

- A valid Govt Issued ID card
- A recent photograph
