More Exclusive Sports Universities Need of the Hour As India Bids for Olympics 2036
As India bids for Olympics 2036, more sports universities are a need of the hour.
India bids for Olympics 2036: The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, announced in October 2023 India's interest in bidding for the Olympics 2036 to an Indian City at the 141st IOC Session. The India bids for the Olympics 2036 announcement have spotlighted the country's Sports infrastructure.
While massive projects for stadiums and other multi-sport venues are being constructed in Ahmedabad, the proposed host city, the government must also work towards improving the state of Sports in Indian Education. While there are a few sports colleges in India, the need of the hour is the establishment of more exclusive sports universities so that the true potential of Indian sportsmanship can be fully harnessed.
There are approximately 107 Sports colleges currently operating in India. There are 27 public or government organizations, 79 privately held, and one owned by public-private entities among these institutes. The foundation stone for the National Sports University, located in Imphal, Manipur, was laid in October 2018.
