The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged the official authority to expedite the exam and admission process for NEET PG 2021. The request came after the NBE decided to postpone the NEET PG 2021 exam in view of the rise in cases of the COVID-19. In addition, the IMA has also requested to expedite the process for FMGE 2021.
The reason behind this urgent request is to increase the number of medical professionals on the frontline. Since the COVID-19 cases are rising rapidly, the medical infrastructure is overwhelmed and the shortage of medical professionals is only adding to it. With India registering more than 3 lakh cases per day, the patient count is rapidly increasing. Therefore, the IMA has made this request.
The NEET PG 2021 exam was scheduled to be conducted on 18 April 2021. The total number of candidates who registered for NEET PG 2021 is 1,74,886. All of these candidates are MBBS degree holders but many are not practicing since they are at home preparing for the upcoming exams. Once qualified, they can join the hospitals as resident doctors and help in the current shortage of manpower.
IMA says “the entire process of admissions can be completed within a month’s time if real concentrated efforts are taken, which is the need of the hour.” With the need for medical professionals increasing with every passing day, the conduction of these exams in a timely manner is the only solution.
