The UP Government has officially cancelled the Uttar Pradesh class 12 board examinations on Thursday, 3 June 2021. However, several school boards have cancelled state examinations successively in the preceding week as deadlines have drawn near. A notable beginning to this ripple effect was the cancellation of the 2021 CBSE examinations. The Union Government declared this cancellation publicly on Tuesday, 2 June 2021. Chief Minister Narendra Modi has shown support to this repeal. He stated in a press release that the decision had to be taken for students’ continued well-being. Additionally, he stated that officials must put the examination anxiety faced by students, parents and teachers to an end.

Almost 26 lakh XII students in the state were eligible to take the class 12 boards in 2021. Many of these students, as well as family and faculty, have been anxiously awaiting the results of this decision. Additionally, in May 2021, the state government had cancelled the adjoining class 10 UP board exam. The effects of this had the nearly 30 lakh candidates becoming promoted unanimously to the 11th class.

Nonetheless, the decision regarding class 12 had stalled due to a historical absence of plans regarding the possibility. However, taking inspiration from the recent attitude towards examinations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM Adityanath has followed suit by officially cancelling the exams. He later commented on this choice in a social media post, tweeting in Hindi that the conference had decided to prioritise children’s health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
