The Uttar Pradesh state board results of Class 10 and 12 were announced on the 27th of April 2019. More than 165 schools registered zero results, as not a single student could clear the examination. The zero result schools include 50 government, 5 aided and 83 plus private schools. In addition to this, more than 388 other schools registered a total result of less than 20 percent.
In the high school examinations, districts with maximum number of zero results include Prayagraj (7), Mirzapur (6), Etah (6), Ballia (5), Ghazipur (5), Hardoi (4), Azamgarh (3), Aligarh (3), Chitrakoot (3), Pratapgarh (3), Shrawasti (3) besides two such schools in Bahraich, Mau, Jaunpur, Sonebhadra, Shahjahanpur, Kannauj and Fatehpur and one each in Sidharth Nagar, Deoria, Varanasi, Chandauli, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Kasganj, Moradabad, Bareilly, Badaun, Rae Bareli, etc.
This is truly a sad state of affairs for the education system in the state. The only reason these reflective figures have come to fore is due to the stringent anti-copying measures that were in place during this year’s examination. The Uttar Pradesh education board director Vinay Kumar Pandey reiterated the same in an interview given to the Hindustan Times. On a positive note though, the pass percentage of students in class 10 stood at 80.07% and 70.06% for Class 12 respectively.
The education system of the state has been marred with controversies for a long time now. The overall quality of education dissemination and infrastructure in place is weak and dismal in nature. It is commendable though that the state has undertaken corrective measures to stop the rampant practice of cheating that had prevailed. But the next more important step should be the improvement of the quality of education offered to the students.
