The Uttar Pradesh education board will be implementing a minimum of 20 sq ft (1.86 sq meters) space for every examinee rule.
The board believes that it will help in conducting the exams in a fairer manner whilst reducing malpractice occurrences. The Examination halls that will be hosting the students have been instructed to implement the new ruling to ensure a minimum of 20 square feet of space for every student. The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (commonly referred to as UP Board), has taken the said measure after it received reports about lack of adequate space to manage examinees from different centers.
Various district inspectors (DIoSes) of schools will be ensuring to make sure that the schools applying to be examination centers possess adequate space to conduct the board examinations in accordance with the new ruling. The officers will be submitting the reports and recommendations for the plan by October 15, 2019, in order to fix the number of examinees allowed per center.
The Secretary of UP board, Neena Srivastava stated that the rule existed earlier but was never really executed. Hence the proposal to implement it this time around is being undertaken rather seriously to curb unfair exam practices. She further stated that it would be a challenge for the board, given the sheer size of the exercise.
The other measures being considered by the board this time around is to stream or webcast the proceedings of exam halls.
