Tripura Class 10 and 12 TBSE board examinations 2021 cancelled

The Tripura state government has cancelled the 2021 class 10 and 12 state board exams. Officials finalized this decision on Saturday, 19 June, due to coronavirus concerns. Tripura students welcomed this cancellation on social media. Additionally, Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath has offered reasoning during a press conference. He stated that the board took the decision “in view of the health safety of over 73,000 students enrolled for the board examinations.” Further, Minister Nath commented that the board has “taken suggestions from health experts and parents of the students.” Both the TBSE (Tripura Board of Secondary Education) and the Tripura education department had jointly made the decision.

Over 73,818 secondary and higher secondary students had enrolled to take the Tripura class 10 and 12 board examinations this year. Thus, it is not conducive for boards to conduct large-scan examinations within the present conditions. Therefore, the board cancelled the examinations, which were scheduled to begin on 18 May 2021. The state and TBSE had initially merely postponed the exams. However, the board had extended the deferment window indefinitely due to the resurgence of COVID-19 in India.

The second wave of COVID-19 had led many class 10 and 12 examination boards to postpone their exams in spring 2021. At the time, many viewed the resurgence to be temporary and thus favoured postponement over the cancellation. However, on 1 June 2021, the CBSE board officially cancelled exams under the purview of Prime Minister Modi. In the weeks following the CBSE exam repeal, many boards followed suit.

Tripura Class 10 and 12 Alternative Evaluation

Consequently, the state must formulate an alternative criteria framework by which to evaluate students. The board will assemble a high-powered panel today, 21 June 2021, to propose this alternative course of action. The committee will announce the results on 31 July 2021. If students are not happy with the newly proposed criteria, they will be given the opportunity to appear for an examination. This examination will take place when conditions become favourable.
