The Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) will be held for the first time in September 2019. The INET will be a new computer-based entrance scheme which will be conducted twice a year in centers across the country.
The INET will be an exam for which graduates will be eligible. The INET entrance test will be conducted alongside the Combined Defence Services exam (CDS), University Entry Scheme (UES) and National Defence Academy and the Naval Academy exams. The main aim of the INET exam will be the induction of officers for Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission Officer roles respectively. Up until now, the candidates used to be shortlisted through the UPSC or/and the University Entry Scheme exams respectively. This would be closely followed by the interview process held by the Services Selection Board (SSB). But now the shortlisting for SSB will be directly based on the INET (officers) exam score of the candidates. The introduction of the new model entrance exam has been lauded by the aspirants.
INET (Officers) exam paper will comprise of four sections namely English, Reasoning and Numerical Ability, General Science – Mathematical Aptitude, and General Knowledge. The Defence Ministry has stated that the candidates have to pass each section of INET (Officers) to be considered for SSB call letters. The final merit list will be prepared by taking into consideration the marks of INET (Officers) exam, SSB exam and the subsequent Medical Examination that follow suit. The final step will, of course, will include the selected candidates undergoing basic training at the Indian Naval Academy.
An official advertisement will be published every six months from the academy. The interested candidates can opt for various roles and entries based on their interests and educational qualification.
