Consequent upon the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown and its extension, AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education) has issued a revised calender of activities for academic year 2020-21 on its official website. The approval process by AICTE (as mentioned in the Approval process handbook) involves the following activities:
- Scrutiny for verification of documents
- Inspection by Expert Visit Committee
- Compliance of deficiencies verified by Standing Hearing Committee/Standing Appellate Committee
AICTE had invited applications for sanctioning approval for the academic year 2020-2021, in February 2020. The last date for submission of online application was February 28, 2020 for new institutions and March 5, 2020 for the existing institutions. Owing to COVID-19 pandemic, approval process could not be completed on the above mentioned dates. Considering the situation, the revised schedule has been released by the Executive Committee in its 133rd Emergent meeting held on April 27, 2020.

Institutions which had applied for EoA without any changes with respect to last year’s approval have been approved by the Executive Committee and they can download the EoA letter from the AICTE web portal from April 30, 2020, after uploading the student enrollment details. For the rest of the institutions, AICTE plans to use online meeting platforms for scrutiny of documents through Microsoft Team. So, all institutions are supposed to install Microsoft software and get familiarised with it, to ease the process of online verification.
AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) was established in November 1945, as a pivotal advisory body to examine the facilities available for technical education. It has the following responsibilities:
- Planning and maintenance of norms and standards.
- Scrutiny for granting of approvals to institutions.
- Management of technical education in the country
