The Chief Minister of Punjab, Amarinder Singh has given clearance for a new Sports University in Patiala
The Punjab Chief Minister has asked the Department of Higher Education for finalizing the criteria for admissions for the academic session 2019-20. The university campus will be constructed on the land in Sidhowal village near adjacent to the Rajiv Gandhi National Law University. The village panchayat had given 97 percent of land for free for the construction and establishment of the university campus. The remaining portion of the land will be acquired soon. To appreciate the decision of the village panchayat, the Chief Minister also gave the approval to reserve some Group C and D jobs for the eligible local people whose land is acquired.
In the meantime, the Chief Minister has asked the Sports Department to take immediate control of the Mohindra Kothi to run the institution there till the completion of the new building. The Sports Department also got an amount of Rs 50 lakh for renovating the building, told the spokesperson. While chairing a high-level meeting of the Steering Committee for the establishment of the university, the CM Amarinder Singh approved ‘Punjab Sports University’ as the name of the proposed institution and a draft memorandum will be presented in the next Cabinet meeting for consideration and approval.
The Additional Chief Secretary of Sports have likewise been asked by the Chief Minister to investigate the likelihood of drawing in top industrial houses like Reliance and Wipro for supporting different courses and the related infrastructural advancement. It is to be noted that Reliance had revealed enthusiasm for being a part of the endeavor amid the CM’s visit to Mumbai.
The official spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that an ordinance will be brought out for ensuring the timely commencement of the first academic session 2019-20.
