NTA NEET, JEE Main 2020 Exam To Be Conducted Tentatively In June

According to the latest information given by Ramesh Pokhriyal, HRD Minister, NEET 2020 medical entrance exam and JEE Main 2020 engineering exam may be postponed until June 2020. In his exclusive interview to the Indian Express, he said that JEE Main exams are likely to be conducted in June. He also said that the HRD Ministry is working with stakeholders like the IITs, boards of examinations and other agencies involved in logistical operations of NEET and JEE, before announcing the next dates. He added that, HRD Ministry has formulated a task force to analyse the possibility of conduction of online exams for higher education and that it will issue guidelines based on the report.

Earlier, the lockdown was announced only till April 14. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, HRD Minister, had advised the NTA to postpone the NEET as well as the already delayed Joint Engineering Examination’s main paper (JEE-Main) till the last week of May. A notice from NTA had stated that various concerned Examination Boards and Ministries were examining the scenario to evaluate the situation that may initiate any change in the schedule. It had also said that the exam would tentatively be in the last week of May 2020, but exact dates would be announced only after a thorough analysis of the situation. NEET admit cards, which were originally to be issued on March 27, was then proposed to be issued only after April 15. India was under a complete lockdown until April 14 in the view of COVID-19 pandemic.

But, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the second phase of the lockdown on 14th April 2020. The COVID-19 lockdown was extended tillĀ  May 3, 2020. A senior official from the NTA, dismissed the claims that NTA NEET UG 2020 and JEE Main 2020 will be held in the month of July. He said that no such decision was taken by the agency. He said that no dates have been finalised by NTA and asked the candidates to rely only on the official notification uploaded on the official website or issued by the MHRD.

A senior MHRD official said that a decision on the CBSE and NTA exam dates can only be taken after the lifting of lockdown. According to his opinion, even if the lockdown is lifted on May 3, 2020 NEET UG 2020 and JEE Main 2020 will tentatively be in the latter half of June.
