Kerala Government Inviting Daily Wage English Teacher Applications 2 Years After High Court Order
The Kerala Government is finally inviting daily wage English teacher applications, 2 years after the order of the honorable high court.
The Government of Kerala has is inviting applicants for daily wage English teachers at the various state run schools. The government has decided to create the post of High School Teacher (HST) English on a daily- wages or contract basis in 639 schools across the state. The news comes a relief to around 1,400 candidates who are waiting the PSC rank list for the HST posts.
A high court order was released in 2021 ordering the state government to create posts for English teacher high schools based on a number of periods and not based on the number of divisions. However, the state government had been delaying the implementation of the court order. Currently, in over 600 schools in the state, teachers qualified in other subjects are handling English classes. This is because there are less than five divisions in the high school section.

Recently, a contempt of court case was filed in the High Court of Kerala against the Kerala governments for not following the court's order regarding the creation of the temporary posts. With the court hearing regarding the petition is scheduled in a few weeks, the government seems to hurriedly created the posts and released the notification. This might be in the hopes that the government will be evade the contempt of court case as the court had only direct it to create the posts and had not set a deadline for its creation.
A senior official from the Kerala government said regarding the matter that special rules had to be framed regarding the integration of higher secondary and high school sections, and only then can the government take a final decision on staff fixation and the permanent posts to be created.
The HST-English aspirants have reacted that prior to the release of the HC order, the daily appointment of teachers has been a long-drawn process which the schools usually carry out in schools only by the middle of an academic year. Moreover, the very relevance of recruiting permanent teachers to the post through PSC comes under question under such circumstances.
