After the Union Education Minister announced that the medical and engineering entrance exams will be held on the basis of the reduced syllabus, the Press Information Bureau released a short notice clarifying that the syllabus of NEET 2021 and JEE Main 2021 exam will remain unchanged. The notice also stated that the candidates, unlike last year, will get more options while answering the questions asked in the NEET 2021 and JEE Main 2021 exams.
On 18 January 2021, the Union Education Minister, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank” held a live conference with the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya. The live conference was broadcasted via Facebook and Twitter. Answering one of the questions about the syllabus of JEE Main 2021 and NEET 2021, Pokhriyal, to the relief of the students, stated that the exams will be held based on the reduced syllabus.
However, the PIB clarified the same today, i.e., 19 January 2021. The syllabus will remain the same as last year only the number of questions has been increased for the JEE Main 2021 exam. This year, the engineering exam will constitute 90 questions (30 questions each in physics, chemistry, and mathematics). Previously, students had to answer 75 questions – 25 questions each in physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
The exam pattern for NEET 2021 is still to be announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Considering the changes and the increase in the number of attempts in the JEE Main 2021 exams, students are hopeful of some positive steps to accommodate the demands of the students amidst the loss of study due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
