The first edition of the biannual newsletter of CDOL – The Centre for Distance and Open Learning, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) was launched by Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar
The aim of the newsletter is to inform the Jamia fraternity and people of diverse backgrounds the education the centre has been providing through distance mode since its inception in 2002. Speaking on the occasion the Vice-Chancellor said that the newsletter should not only record the activities of the centre for the past six months but also should give a blueprint of what it intends to do in the coming months.
Presenting a brief account of the academic profile of the centre, Professor Ahrar Husain, the Honorary Director, CDOL (Academics) said that it had started with 4 courses and a handful Learners Support Centres (LSC) and now it is offering 20 courses with 45 LSCs across the country and is following UGC’s rules and regulations. The newsletter would help in disseminating information to the people about the significant contribution that the centre has been making in providing education to those who could not get the opportunity to have regular education.
Vice Chancellor during the inauguration also appreciated the centre’s efforts to add more courses including MBA from this academic year. The CDOL centre is also contributing to the government’s effort to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education, he said. The function was attended among others by former directors of the centre, faculty members of the university and teaching & non-teaching staff of the centre.
