    Union Education Minister to Inaugurate Agri-Food Techathon Organised by IIT Kharagpur

    The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is going to organize an agri-food techathon. This techathon is going to be held from 25 January 2021. The union education minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank is going to inaugurate this event at 2 PM in association with NABARD. This techathon is being organized for the promotion of youth participation for innovation and entrepreneurship in different areas of the agri-food sector.

    Foundation for the Agri-Business Incubation Center to be Conducted

    The foundation for the agri-business incubation center will also be conducted during the inaugural event. This incubation center is made to inculcate new innovative ideas in the field of food and agriculture technology. A national-level online test fest is being conducted from January to March 2021. Around 750 universities/college students, entrepreneurs, and rural youth from across the nation will participate in this fest.

    The director of IIT Kharagpur, Professor VK Tewari mentioned that “since India is moving fast towards automation and digitization, there is a need to complement it with automation in rural livelihood and farm sector and warrant uniform progress.” He also stated that the main objective is to reach out to the talented youth of the nation through the agri-food techathon.

    Students to Exhibit Qualities

    This platform will help the students to exhibit their skills, creativity, problem-solving ability, and prototyping techniques which will help in the development of products and projects and also enhance the employment generation helping to fulfill the promise of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

    Around 30 teams will be selected and given assistance in the form of Technology and business development mentorship, research, and development support, laboratory/workshop/ pilot plant access, and funding opportunities through potential investors.
