The government earlier announced for the universities to conduct the final semester exams. Following that decision, Anna University has scheduled to conduct the examinations in the third week of September 2020. The university has asked around 500 engineering colleges to begin preparations for offline exams. Students from different parts of the state will be given the option to write exams in centers near their native places.
Exams to be Conducted Offline
Considering the Covid-19 scenario, universities were preparing to conduct the examinations in an online mode. But since then, the situation in the state has eased. Therefore, following the relaxation in lockdown, universities have been directed to conduct the exams offline.
Exams to be Conducted in the Third Week of September
According to reports, the Controller of Examinations in a circular to the Regional Officers stated that Anna University is preparing to conduct the end semester exams for the final year students during the third week of September. So that the exams can be completed before this month, keeping in mind the UGC guidelines.
The circular also stated the details of the maximum number of students to be accommodated in each zone, with the exemption of colleges functioning as COVID-19 care centers. Also, the number of students in halls was reduced from 25 to 12 to maintain social distancing. The exam centers will be arranged in Engineering Colleges located near the residences of the students.
Meeting with the VC’s of the University
The Higher Education Department conducted a meeting to discuss the preparations for offline exams. One of the Vice-chancellors who participated in the meeting said that it was decided to conduct the final semester exams for a duration of three hours. Students from outside the country and other states might be given the option of giving the exam online. Vice-chancellors also added that college hostels would not be open to students. The students are required to come to the college daily for the exams. Arrangements will be made for those who live far away to write the exam in a nearby center.
Guidelines regarding the same will be issued by the state. The exam schedule will be released in a couple of days. Some professors have urged the state government to allow the students to choose between online or offline exams. They believe that due to the Covid-19 situation, many parents will not be willing to send their children to the campuses to appear for the exams.
