DU Exams 2020: OBE Answer Sheets will be Evaluated Digitally by Subject Teachers

The Delhi University (DU) informed principals of colleges under it that the scanned answer sheets submitted during online, open-book exams (OBE) will be evaluated digitally or in automated mode by subject teachers. They have been asked to make the required information and communication technology infrastructure available to those who will evaluate the answer sheets in the college itself. “For the purpose, the examiners shall be provided access to the portal individually. The examiners after evaluation shall submit their response/award on the portal itself, which shall be recorded for the purpose of result compilation,” said the letter by the University to the college principals.

The online open-book exams for undergraduate and postgraduate courses commenced on August 10th and will go on till August 31st. Teachers and students had opposed to this mode of conducting the exams. Students have alleged that they faced issues while uploading answer sheets. Differently-abled students said they would not be able to take the test and accused the University of being “exclusionary” and “discriminatory.”

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association has been demanding that the exams be scrapped and the students evaluated based on previous performances and internal assessments. Various teachers and students have also opposed this decision of the University to conduct exams from Monday. A teacher from the English department, who did not wish to be named, said almost 50 percent of students might not be able to take the exams. “Students in villages, where even electricity is a problem, may not be able to take the exams.”
