Delhi University is one of the most preferred universities by the students across the country. It was said that the admissions would commence from mid-April. But the dates seemed to be pushed further ahead with no particular deadline or time frame in sight. But now an official statement regarding the same has come forward. The Standing Committee of the Academic Council of Delhi University has come up with a tentative date of May 20th for the commencement of admissions.
There have been several changes planned in the admission process. The total number of seats offered will also see an increase of 25%. This has been initiated in accordance with the directive of the Human Resource Development Ministry asking educational institutions across the country to increase the number of seats. The DU plans on implementing this in two phases; a 10% increase will take place this year and the remaining 15% will be implemented in the next academic cycle.
The admissions shall be conducted on the basis of entrance tests, merit and off course NCWEB subject to individual course policies and requirements. Delhi University has also decided to reduce the percentage of marks deduction in case of a change in the subject stream to be 2% from 5% last year. The standing committee has put forth a few more important changes such as the introduction of 1% relaxation in cut-off marks for students from rural backgrounds and government schools. This is in order to bridge the gap between urban and rural student ratio.
The Delhi University or University of Delhi [DU], New Delhi was established in the year 1922 under the Act of the Central Legislative Assembly.
