Considering the petitions filed by the standard 10 and 12 students, the Hon’ble Supreme Court issued a notice to CBSE. The students were seeking the cancellation of the CBSE compartment exams which was scheduled for the students who either failed or wanted to reappear for any subject. About 1.5 lakh students from standard 10 and around 87,000 from standard 12 are expected to appear in this exam.
The petition was filed on 6 August 2020 by students led by Anika Samvedi. Justice AM Khanwilkar, heading a three-judge bench issued the notice. The Court directed CBSE to file its response by 7 September 2020. After that, the matter will be taken up for hearing on 10 September 2020. Earlier, the students had filed a petition for representation before CBSE to cancel the exams. But the petition was rejected by CBSE on 6 August 2020.
On Friday, Advocate Roopesh Kumar, appearing for CBSE, said that the compartment exams are likely to be held by the end of September. He insisted that all necessary precautions will be taken in view of Covid-19. He further added that the board intends to have 1278 exam centers this time. This is almost more than double compared to 575 last year. Kumar also added that they will make proper arrangements to seat only 12 students in a single classroom this year.
