The National Test Agency (NTA) has asked the Union Health Ministry whether it is possible to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) twice a year. As of now, NEET is conducted only once a year. This exam is conducted for admission to dental and medical colleges all over India.
Officials said that “Students undergo an immense amount of stress preparing for these highly competitive exams. If the test can be conducted more than once a year, it would hugely lessen the pressure on them.”
The officials also mentioned that to make this possible, the ministry has to agree to it first. The official said, “For NEET, the NTA is only the exam conducting body,” and “The move to hold the test twice would bring relief to students.” They also said that as of now, “it is not easy to conduct a pen and paper twice as it requires much larger arrangements. The NTA has also suggested that the possibility of holding it in the online mode may be examined.”
As announced earlier by the authorities, from the year 2021, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) will be conducted 4 times a year for the candidates seeking admissions to engineering colleges.
